Aliayah - Timeline

Aliayah Lunsford Timeline

(This will be updated as time allows)

09/24/2011:  Aliayah is reported missing around 11:30am by her mother, Lena Lunsford.

09/29/2011:  The Lunsford home is finally roped off as a crime scene and searched.  An interview with a neighbor reveals that no one saw or heard Lena searching for Aliayah before calling 911.

09/30/2011:  Lunsford's other four children are taken into state custody.  Law enforcement will not comment.

10/04/2011:  The FBI holds the first press conference in the case, stating that they believe Aliayah's disappearance to be "either murder, abduction, or concealment."  They state that they have a "small universe" of suspects, but refuse to name any publicly.

10/06/2011:  Lena Lunsford's 911 calls are released.

10/14/2011:  At an FBI press conference, law enforcement expresses "limited hope that she is alive."  They agree that more than one person could be involved and that a conspiracy cannot be ruled out.

10/17/2011:  Lena Lunsford is arrested on federal charges of welfare fraud.  She reportedly sold her SNAP benefits (food stamps) in return for cash.

10/25/2011:  A diver returns to the river near the Lunsford home.  Law enforcement says they are just making sure they have searched the area thoroughly.

10/26/2011:  The search for Aliayah moves to Vadis - a remote area in western Lewis County.  Vadis is home to Ralph Lunsford's family, and the property being searched was the site of his 2009 attempted malicious assault arrest.

10/28/2011:  The FBI mobile command unit returns to the state police barracks in Lewis County, signifying the end of the major search effort in Vadis.  Aliayah's extended family speaks for the first time.

11/02/2011:  Lena Lunsford is indicted on her federal charges, which carry a maximum penalty of up to five years in federal prison and a fine of $10,000.

11/03/2011:  The FBI announces a $20,000 reward in information leading to the recovery of Aliayah or the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her disappearance.

11/07/2011:  Lena Lunsford waives her right to a hearing in her federal indictment, and her lawyer enters a plea of not guilty.

11/09/2011:  Lena Lunsford finally releases a statement to the media and begs for the return of her daughter or information about the crime.  This is 46 days after her disappearance.

11/10/2011:  Lena gives birth to a set of twin girls, who are immediately taken into state custody.

11/14/2011:  The FBI releases new posters bearing a never before seen photo of an apparently battered Aliayah.  Law enforcement will not comment on the bruises or their origination.  View and print the newest poster.
