School Bus Crash at Wildcat

Authorities confirmed a school bus accident in Wildcat today. Apparently another vehicle hit a bus head on while it was stopped this evening. Luckily, no one was injured. A few children were taken for treatment just in case, but it appears that everyone is fine.

Moral of the story? Watch the fucking road, people. School buses deserve more respect than any other vehicle on the road. Our children are on those things.

To whomever was driving the vehicle that hit the bus, I sincerely hope a pissed off parent finds out your name and gives you a piece of their mind.  Possibly a piece of their fist as well.  Idiot.

First Multi-County School

Lewis County will soon be part of the first ever multi-county school in WV.  A new elementary school in Linn (on the Lewis/Gilmer line) will consolidate the old and raggedy Alum Bridge Elementary and Troy Elementary.  But that's not the end of the news.

Most of the time, when a new school needs to be built, it's up to each county to raise funds through levies and the like.  It almost always turns into raising taxes to support the new school.  Since the children ARE our future, I don't really have a problem with that, but I know a lot of people do.  Anyway, not this time.  In a totally unexpected turn of events, the WV School Building Authority has agreed to fund the entire $11 million project.  It is expected to see completion in 2014.

Something that I find really neat is that this is finally being discussed in other counties, as well.  I grew up in southern Upshur County, and a relatively small area has two elementary schools because students from way up on the Upshur/Webster line are being bussed into Rock Cave.  If you're not familiar with the area, that's a damn long haul for a little one.  I wouldn't want my kid to have to do it, especially in the winter.  I'm not sure how far the Webster County school is, but I'm guessing their kids have a long ride to school as well.  Life would be so much easier if we stopped worrying about what county a kid is in and just started worrying about how to make things better for everyone.  The kid who has a 90 minute bus ride to school isn't as sharp as the one who has a 20 minute ride.  I wonder if there's research on that...  I'll look it up.

Point is, we're moving in a great direction here and I'm anxious to see how this erasure of county lines will effect the children attending the new consolidated schools.

Sex Offender: James Payne

Mon County got their shit together and put another sex offender behind bars.  Again.  After he assaulted a 4 year old kid.  This is why I firmly believe in the death penalty for sex offenders.  There is no rehabilitation for these losers.  They sentenced him, he served his time, he got back out, and what did he do?  He found another baby to attack!

James Payne, age 61, is behind bars with bail set at $500,000.  Here's hoping they keep him til he rots this time.

Have A Look Around

Like the first scissor cut on a fresh piece of construction paper, so begins the new home of LCRM.

Here, I should be able to keep things tagged better.  I'll add a place to click labels eventually...  Also, up top, you'll notice some tabs.  The calendar link will show various goings-on around the county.  If there is something you'd like to see added, just let me know.  Beside that, links to the Lunsford case history and timeline - a very basic, very confirmed version.  I'll be adding to that as time allows as well.

Anonymous commenting is allowed.  You do not have to give an email address or even a name.  I'm searching for a way to allow you to contact me privately and anonymously, but that may take some time.  Just know that I value your privacy as much as I do mine.  (This follows my same logic as always - if you don't want me to talk about you, keep your nose clean and your ass out of trouble.  If your mug shot is online, you're public property, buddy.)

On the right, you will notice a job board.  This is powered by Indeed.com.  I have set it to show jobs close to Weston.  Aside from that, I don't have any control over it.  If you'd like, I can add a job page where locals can submit jobs for me to post.

On the left, eventually, will be Google AdSense.  Yes, they're ads.  No, you don't have to click them.  They're off to the side so they aren't a big pain your butt, but maybe someone will see something interesting and go chase it down.

Below, you'll see the privacy policy.  Same old story.  I value my privacy.  I value your privacy.  Don't go to jail and get your mugshot on the internet.  K?

For now, I'm off to bed.  I hope to start editing current content and adding some new stuff tomorrow or Saturday.  Since I do have a real life (and don't get paid for this one), I have to do things when I have time.  I hope you'll all bear with me and together, we'll make this the best damn treehouse on the internet.
